Not the Brightest Bulb…

Tuesday, January 30th, 2007

I just have to share this true story from work today:

I received a call from the school saying that an elementary student had stuck his head in the toilet today, and flushed it.  The best part, was that this student had stuck his head in the toilet last week too.  In today’s case, the student said he had accidently got soap in his eye, so that is why he did it.

Then later, I received this clarifying email from the student’s administrator:

I just wanted to clarify with everyone that when asked in more detail about his behaviors in the washroom this morning, he explained that he was following the directions on the hand soap dispenser in the washroom, The label on the soap reads, “If this product comes in contact with eyes, flush immediately.”

It has become clear now that while he should probably not have been putting soap on his hair or on his face to begin with, he was just making sure that he followed the consumer guidelines.

And now, back to scanning

The slideshow for my father’s birthday party was a big hit.  He seemed to really enjoy the party too.  Now that we are done with that activity, I can get back to scanning photos in for the archive project.

Instead of just randomly picking another box to start scanning, I decided to take out all of the slides and organize them.  It took a couple hours to get them back into their original stacks.  I unloaded all of the carousels too.  Looking at the bounty in front of me, I estimate that there are over 1300 slides here!  So lets see…8 slides scanned per hour, and working 2.5 hours per night, means this will be done in 67 days.  With no breaks.

Not to mention that there are no slides from Dec 73  to Nov 73 here.  I bet those are in another box.  Of the slides that I do have, they span from December of 1970 to July of 1983.

Eve of the big party!

Friday, January 26th, 2007

Jenny and I (along with Scot and Sharon) have been working long hours getting ready for my father’s 60th birthday party tomorrow. The good news is that we are mostly done with the preparation. It will be at the new indoor pavilion at Berens Park, and we are expecting around 50-60 people.

We finished a slideshow yesterday (although I am not happy with the quality of the video, so I am contemplating redoing it tonight), and we have a bunch of games ready. One game everyone will love is Pin the Tool on Larry. Check out the picture of the poster we put together!

I also threw in another picture of the girls. There was a three girl pile-up in the dining room last week. Jenny was able to catch the accident on film.

Funny Money, Part II

Tuesday, January 23rd, 2007

I called the bank today, again, to express my dissatisfaction that they haven’t resolved this situation in a week now.  I got the same empathy statements, and “We’ll get right on this right away” nonsense as before.  So to speed things along, and for a little catharsis, I emailed the corporate headquarters of 5th/3rd Bank and wrote out the whole story.

It’s a long story, involving two banks, a police report, and Brian still being out $20.

Chicago Bears defeated the New Orleans Saints, 39-14

Sunday, January 21st, 2007

The Bears are NFC Champions!  We watched the game at the Fronza’s, to enjoy the HD signal.  However, about two hours before the game, James and I tried to “simplify” a couple of the cables in the back of the TV, and we somehow mesed up the HD signl coming out of the cable box.  We worked on it for two hours, and eventually had to call Comcast (when Leo and Joyce arrived home from the cabin and we had to spill the beans).  So during the first quarter of the game, I spent it turning the TV and cable box on and off with tech support trying to help out.  The crowd was not happy about my timing.  We finally got the signal back though.

The girls had Bears tatoos again.  Now we are out of tatoos, but Jenny thinks we need to get more because that is probably why the Bears keep winning!

Leisure Suit Larry

The Fronza Photo Archive project was on hold for the last two evenings, while Jenny and I scanned in Meyer family photographs for my Dad’s upcoming 60th birthday party.  Here were a couple that we both liked.  Jenny used to say she wasn’t interested in me for how I dressed.  But look at me!  The cycling cap, vans, Op shirt.  I was stylin’.

“HD TV is…just alright”

Wednesday, January 17th, 2007

I called James last night to see how the HD looked.  His reply, “Ehh, it’s just alright.”

What?! That isn’t the response I wanted.

Exciting news!  The world-wide-web fairy came last night and gave me my very own domain name.  If anyone see’s him, tell him thanks.  Reports are that he is a dude, just over 5 feet tall, and likes to wear tight Chicago Bear’s jerseys of third string quarterbacks.
